What Does Gratitude Do?

Share on:

Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow. – Melody Beattie

Gratitude is such an important thing.  It’s something we should feel, and something we should express – daily!  When we are grateful, it just makes everything so much better.  I love this quote, because it seriously tells it like it is.  It’s actually part of a longer quote, and we’ll see the rest of that tomorrow, but this part really spoke to me.  Especially the part about making sense of our past.  I know I’ve blogged before about not hanging on to the past, and I stand by that, but it’s also okay to look at the past to figure out what happened.  I’m doing that right now.  I’m looking at something that happened, and it wasn’t a super great thing.  I could spend time beating myself up over it (and yeah, I may have done that a bit) but I’m also trying very hard to be grateful for this.  It was a large part of my life for a very long time, and now it’s not, but I’m grateful that it was there for as long as it was.  And that feeling of gratitude is really helping to reconcile and make sense of that past, and make peace with my today.  So work on expressing that gratitude and use it to deal with your past and create your tomorrow.
