Be Confident

Share on:

It is confidence in our bodies, minds, and spirits that allows us to keep looking for new adventures. –Oprah Winfrey

I’m going to be kind of contradictory here.  I totally agree with this quote, but  how do you find and/or develop that confidence.  So many times, we get battered with negative messages from all sides, or worse, from our selves.  It’s really hard to remain confident when all that negativity is hammering at you day in and day out.

So while I totally agree with this quote and it’s message, I’m taking a different message away from it.  What I’m taking away from this quote is that it’s important to block out all the negativity that comes at you.  There are many different things you can do.  Sometimes, when I’m being bombarded with negativity, I’ll turn up the music to drown it out.  If someone is pointing out all my flaws and mistakes, in my mind, I’ll counter each one of their negatives with a positive about myself.  Sometimes, I’ll just remove myself from the negativity.  And one of my favorites (I use this one at work a lot) is to imagine an invisible bubble surrounding me, and all that negativity just bounces right off of me.

Those are a few of the things that I do to help ward off negativity.  Because only then am I able to start feeling the confidence in myself that allows me to do what the quote says and keep looking for new adventures.  One other thing I want to point out is that new adventures don’t have to mean climbing a mountain in some far flung country, or bungee jumping, sky diving or anything like that.  Your adventures can be found everywhere and in every day things.  Your adventures are what you make them.  So ward off that negativity, find your confidence and go out and find your own adventures!
