Keep Your Eye on the Prize – Challenge Day 21

Keep Your Eye on the Prize

Only he who keeps his eye fixed on the far horizon will find his right road.~ Dag Hammarskjold

The other day I talked about not looking too far into the future, and today I’m talking about keeping your eye on the prize. I realize I sound slightly schizophrenic, but I promise you, it all works out.  You need to have a plan, and a destination in mind.  But you have to remember, that life throws up keep your eye on the prizeroadblocks and speed bumps and detours.  Sometimes you just have to roll with what life throws you. But while you’re rolling with it, you need to keep your eye on the prize.

So how do you find that balance?  It’s not easy, but it is necessary.  Set goals, and make plans, but keep them fluid, because some of the best experiences in life come when you least expect it.  In my other blog post, I talked about kids who knew in first grade what they wanted to be when they grew up.  When they achieve that goal, it’s fantastic, but what are they missing out on?  I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was in eighth grade.  Am I a teacher? Yes I am.  Did I follow my original plan?  No I didn’t!  Not even close.  But the experiences I had along the way were amazing, including becoming a mom to a set of wonderful and amazing twins.  So I yes, keep your eye on the prize, but enjoy the detours along the way.
