Follow your passion, be prepared to work hard and sacrifice, and, above all, don’t let anyone limit your dreams. – Donovan Bailey
When I first read this quote, my initial thought was who on earth would ever limit their dreams! Then I realized, just about everybody does. I bet you’re thinking that you’ve never done this, but I bet you have. I think pretty much everybody has at one time or another.
I had a student shoot me an email not too long ago talking about classes they were going to be taking to get ready for college and possible career choices. Now this student is an incredibly gifted musician, who would probably be successful as a music performer, but he said to me that he was going music ed because it’s “safer.” Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a teacher myself, I love it, and I heartily support anybody who becomes a teacher, provided they’re doing it for the right reasons. The right reasons are not summer vacations or because it’s safe.
Don’t limit your dreams, don’t settle for the safe choice, or the easy choice. This is your life, and if you have dreams and passions you owe it to yourself to explore them and to live life to the fullest. I lived a dream with my little book, but now, I’m working on another one. I almost want to call it a real one, but that would mean that Thinking Positive: Take the Journey into Positivity wasn’t a real book. It is! And while it’s something I’m passionate about (I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t) I’m even more passionate about fiction, more specifically Young Adult fiction, at least for what I have in mind. So I started today, and I’m going to try and get it done. Don’t limit your dreams, instead, why not live them?
